Teaching ESL/EFL Made Fun and Easy

ENGLISH COMES ALIVE by Dr. Jim Witherspoon is the only reference book you will need to become a first-rate ESL/EFL teacher. I guarantee it! Written by a truly beloved professor who has in my opinion perfected the art of teaching, ENGLISH COMES ALIVE is a collection of original ideas, games, and activities that he and his group of ESL/EFL teachers have used again and again in Hungary and Lithuania. As a member of one of his former teaching groups, I personally had success sharing his methods with my Lithuanian students in the summer of 2005. ENGLISH COMES ALIVE is an inspirational guidebook to anyone interested in learning how to teach ESL/EFL and have fun doing it. Fun for both you and the students! The personal stories of Dr. Witherspoon's experiences included at the end of the book are an added bonus. You will be truly inspired and ready to teach! Have Fun!

Lifesaver in China

During the summer of 2009, I was fortunate to be given an early version of Jim's book to take to China for our English camp. Every morning we used songs, games and role playing to deepen our middle school student's understanding of English. They loved it. Each activity brought a level of fun to our daily lessons that went far beyond memorization, repetition and seat work. This book is packed with ideas. It's a tremendous resource that will save the ESL/EFL teacher the long hours and hard work of coming up with their own creative ideas to further their student's comprehension and usage of English. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone who is helping someone learn our language.

A winner

Quietly brilliant.
This book's a winner.
This is the right way to teach ESL, not through grammar lessons and dry reading exercises.
First, he gives great 'concept sketch' ideas for how to make lessons interesting.
Secondly, he doesn't just tell you how to do the exercises and then leave you to flounder with the actual application, but there is a well-organized and orderly following chapter giving usable examples for each.
Also, this teacher seems like a real character.
